ADDISON – As Yankee legend Yogi Berra once said, "It’s deja vu all over again," and that is exactly what it was as the Addison Bulldogs secured their fourth victory on the year, beating the Sumiton Christian Eagles 44-7.

It was a rough start for the Bulldogs on special teams when, after forcing a three-and-out, Tyler Borden was returning a punt and was stripped by Sumiton Christian's Luke McDonald, who returned the ball down to the Addison 21. Two plays later Eagles quarterback Chase Crane connected with Jeremy Brown for a 21-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, putting Sumiton Christian up 7-0.

Both teams spent the remainder of the first quarter trading possessions. It took until the 9:17 mark of the second quarter before Addison found pay dirt on a 47-yard Borden touchdown run.  Ben Robinson carried the ball in for the two-point conversion to give Addison its first lead of the game, 8-7, a lead they never relinquished.

Following the third part of the half for the Sumiton Christian Eagles, Addison found themselves with the ball on its half of the 50. Zayne Guthrie called his own number on a designed quarterback draw and split the tackles, racing up the middle for a 50-yard touchdown. The PAT was no good, and the score stood at 14-6 with 2:28 left to play in the half.

After another Eagle punt, Addison took over on the Sumiton Christian 36 with less than two minutes to go in the half. The Bulldogs used up all but .3 seconds on the drive, ending with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Guthrie to Gage Gilliland. Guthrie connected with Logan Wilkins for the 2-point conversion to give Addison a 22-7 lead as they headed to the Randy White Field House at halftime.

After deferring in the first half, Addison got the ball to start the second, setting up shop on its own 35. It took them just one play, when Robinson found a seam and was gone, 65 yards, to the house. Addison added the 2-point conversion to extend its lead to 30-7.

Addison scored once more in the third, this time on a 44-yard touchdown run by Caleb Crider who broke four tackles on his way to the end zone. The Bulldogs converted the PAT to make the score 37-7.

Just seconds into the fourth quarter, Sumiton Christian was forced to punt the ball and Addison took full advantage when Borden fielded the punt at the Eagle 40, made two players miss, and took it into the end zone for the touchdown. The PAT was good, putting Addison comfortably in front 44-7.

Final score: Addison 44, Sumiton Christian, 7

Addison improved to 4-0 on the season and will be looking to stay in the ranks of the unbeaten at Lynn next Friday.
