CULLMAN – Cullman High School's 1967 graduating class gathered at Terri Pines Country Club Saturday night for its 50th year reunion, and it was a great night of reminiscing and storytelling for the Cullman alumni. There were 68 graduates in attendance, along with their families. A memorial was placed at the front of the room to honor the 26 members of the class who have passed, featuring 26 burning white candles.
There were tables covered in old photos and yearbooks for the attendees to enjoy, as well as several posters on the walls with the class motto and a class picture taken on the quad before graduation 50 years ago.
One of the reunion's chief organizers, and fellow member of the class of 1967, Danny McAfee, said he had been looking forward to this celebration for months.
"We had a 45th year reunion five years ago to kind of warm up to this one and to start making our contacts because it had been 20 years since our last reunion," McAfee said. "We intensely prepared for this; we started meeting in February and then met once a month up until now."
McAfee was also excited by the participation he has seen in the reunions and how much fun they are for those who attend.
"I think our turnout is great. We had 210 in our class, and we have about 68 here tonight, and 26 are deceased, so with that in mind I think we've had a great turnout. The best part about it is just catching up with everyone and sharing stories. Those are things that only you and your classmates know about and can talk about that other people wouldn’t understand."
The class members had a wonderful night sharing their experiences since they last met and left the ballroom excited for the next reunion to come.
