CULLMAN – A group of kids was out late on a school night Monday. During the Cullman City Council’s regular meeting, Mayor Woody Jacobs and the council presented a resolution of commendation to the East Elementary School archery team for winning county, regional and state championships in National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) competition for two consecutive years.

Councilman Clint Hollingsworth presented the resolution, which read as follows:

“WHEREAS, the East Elementary School Archery Team, comprised of 4th and 5th grade archers, has won the County, Regional, and State NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) Archery Tournaments for the second consecutive year; and,

WHEREAS, in order to excel in any sport, players must demonstrate an outstanding spirit of dedication, enthusiasm, skill, and hard work – and a vivid example of this can be seen in the remarkable achievements of the East Elementary Archery Team; and,

WHEREAS, a special commendation is due to the following team members and coaches, as well as to support staff, sponsors, and parents:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council of the City of Cullman, on behalf of our citizens, do hereby offer this COMMENDATION as an expression of our pride in the good sportsmanship and achievements of the EES Archery Team.”

The commendation named the coaches and team members:

Coaches: Branch Whitlock, Beth Binkowski, Doug Johnson

Archers: Kase Nixon, Cole Burnham, Carson Laney, Emma Ritchey, Cale Graves, Ellie Wiggins, Aliceann Kontogeorge, Nevaeh Isbell, Trenton Clemmons, Trent Hudson, Will Bolzle, Hayden Scott, John Lunsford, Ava Ray, Colter Bowen, Evan Dockery, Emma Thompson, Allie Stewart, Piper Speake, Carson Starnes, Reese Fox, Cooper Loftin, Emma Britton, Jackson Bentley, Jack Yeager, Landon Stancil, Brooklyn Morton, Isaac Jones

Said Whitlock, “The kids, they give everything they have.  They show up every day, and the parents give us all the support in the world.  (EES Principal) Mr. (David) Wiggins gives us the availability of the gym, and any kind of support we need.  So it’s just a good, well-rounded effort from everyone, and these kids are the best.  They’re just the best in the state.”
