CULLMAN –  Two Birmingham men are behind bars Monday, suspected of burglarizing Pawn Your Bond on Aug. 6.

Cullman County Sheriff Office (CCSO) investigators and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) arrested Brandon Rorylavelle Hurt, 22, for third-degree burglary and Marcus Wendell Newsome, 24, for third-degree burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Aug. 6, 2017, Pawn Your Bond, 1506 County Road 437, Cullman, was burglarized and approximately seven firearms were reported stolen. Images of two suspects were captured stealing several guns from the store. The CCSO held a press conference with area media, shared the images on social media, and also utilized Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama. Hurt and Newsome were identified through Crime Stoppers in a matter of a few days, according to the CCSO.

CCSO investigators and ATF agents had been working to locate the suspects in Birmingham and Cullman County since they were identified.  A tip was received Sunday, August 27 that the suspects were staying in the city of Cullman. CCSO investigators and the Cullman Police Department executed a search of a local apartment complex, where they located the suspects in an apartment closet. Both were arrested at the scene and transported to the Cullman County Detention Center.

“I am glad we are able to locate and arrest the two thieves before they possibly burglarized another business,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.  “I am proud of the job the investigators have done in locating and arresting the suspects in such a quick manner, and I also think this shows what a valuable resource Crime Stoppers and social media can be if used correctly.”

Hurt and Newsome are currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center without bond.
