Crash at U.S. 278 and AL 69 sends 2 to area hospitals

CULLMAN – One person was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital and one taken by ambulance to Cullman Regional Thursday afternoon following a collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 278 and Alabama Highway 69.

According to Cullman Police Officer Jeff Mize, who was at the scene, an elderly gentleman driving a truck turned in front of another man in a sedan. The younger man in the sedan was the driver who was airlifted.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m.

The roadways were closed in the area to allow the Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter to land. The scene has now been cleared.

Mize says that neither man's injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Cullman EMS, Cullman Fire Rescue and the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
