CULLMAN – Looking for something adventurous to do this weekend? Check out the Smith Lake WakeBattle this Saturday. The event is sponsored by Russell Marine, Wake Factory, Hyperlite Wakeboards and Nautique and boasts on its Facebook event page, “Come join us for WakeBattle in its new location for this year. We are moving from the Montgomery Riverfront to Smith Lake Park. Same great riding just new scenery!”
On Friday at Smith Lake Park, there will be a wakeboard and boat demo. To register for the demos, contact Russell Marine at 256-841-6365.
“We’ll have a Hyperlite demo from 10 a.m. until 4, which is the wakeboard that we sell at the store,” said Daniel Uline of Russell Marine. “We will also have a demo of one of the boats we have for sale at the same time, and those who want to sign up for the demo can bring their own wakeboards to ride behind the boat.”
There will also be an open-house event at Russell Marine on Friday, with snacks and refreshments, and special promotions going on throughout the store.
Signups for the WakeBattle event will begin around 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning at Smith Lake Park. The WakeBattle will begin around 9:30 a.m.
“While there will be professional boarders there, I don’t want people to be intimidated into not signing up, or to think that this is some big thing,” Uline said. “Everyone should feel free to sign up; we’ll have ages from 6 to 76 there.”
Uline said that this is a family event that Russell Marine is committed to growing and supporting for the years to come.
“We have been holding this event for the past four years in Montgomery,” Uline said. “But we wanted to move the event up here since we’ve opened the new store here, and wanted more of a community event.”
Uline said in the coming years he wants to see the event become a community festival, where wakeboarding is involved, but not the only thing happening.
