CULLMAN – You might want to keep that red, white and blue bunting up this year, after all, this year through the final months of 2019, the entire state is celebrating Alabama’s Bicentennial. The festivities will be ongoing through the entire two and a half years.

In fact, there is a workshop for anyone in Cullman or Cullman County, as well as anyone from anywhere in north Alabama, who would like to volunteer, or groups, including churches, and schools, garden clubs, book clubs, and service organizations, etc.  that might want to do programs, events and promotions that can be connected to Alabama’s bicentennial.

The first year, this year, is considered the year of “Our Places.”  In 2018, the theme will turn to “Our People,” while the final year will focus on “Our Stories.”

With that in mind, anyone, or any group, who would like to participate, can attend a free workshop on July 10, 2017, at the Benedictine Retreat Center. You must preregister for the event, in order to reserve your seat and your meal.

“They (the workshops) really are a good way to network and make connections and not just for the Bicentennial,” said Chairman of the Cullman Bicentennial Committee, Drew Green. “It is free and all you have to do is go to the Alabama 200 website, click on the ‘communities’ tab and then ‘community workshops’ to get to the form. It is at the new Sacred Heart Sisters Retreat Center, which is beautiful, and of course the sisters will prepare a fantastic lunch.

“The workshops are for anybody in the north Alabama area. We have people coming from Decatur, Birmingham, Florence, Gadsden, and all around the area,” said Green. “It’s also a good way to get a lot of people into Cullman so that they can find out about our unique community.”

For more information, visit www.Alabama200.com. To register to assure your seat and your meal, go to http://qrne.ws/retreat.

The Benedictine Retreat Center is located at 916 Convent Road NE in Cullman.

"We're excited to have people coming to Cullman for this workshop," said Green. "We're excited to have so many people from other communities, as well as leaders from our area in Cullman for this informative workshop. We are all looking forward to learning what others are doing in their communities and to sharing what we're doing here in Cullman. "
