CULLMAN COUNTY – Two people died as a result of a three-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 278 East, just east of the Duck River Bridge, Friday afternoon. Multiple injuries were also reported, with at least three AirEvac Lifeteam helicopters on the scene.
Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick has identified the victims as Rachael Kelley, 24, and Matthew Waid, 24, both of Vinemont.
The wreck happened on the Holly Pond side of Duck River Bridge, at the top of the hill in the curve, at approximately 3:04 p.m. Friday. Hwy. 278 was closed for two and a half hours.
More details will be available when Alabama State Troopers release their accident report.
