VINEMONT – Alabama State Troopers say texting while driving could be a factor in the crash that killed a Lacey’s Spring woman Thursday afternoon.

Samantha Eugenia Wilkerson, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick.  Troopers says Wilkerson was driving a 2008 Hyundai that struck a 2005 Peterbilt truck and overturned. The driver of the truck was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The crash occurred at 2:41 p.m. in the 5000 block of County Road 1435 (Eva Road), 6 miles north of Cullman. Flames erupted following the collision, and the road was blocked for some time.

A statement from Trooper Curtis Summerville read, “Although the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, preliminary investigation indicates that driving while texting with an electronic device may have been a factor in the crash.”

Troopers say nothing further is available as they continue to investigate.
