HANCEVILLE – With Mayor Kenneth Nail out of town, the Hanceville City Council held its regular meeting with a single item on the agenda this week: to pay the bills, which it did.  Beyond that, the big topic of conversation for council members and audience alike was this Saturday’s tractor show.

Hanceville will hold its 19th annual Antique Tractor and Engine Show at Wallace State, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 10.  The event will feature pedal tractor races, “slow races,” a skillet throwing contest, tractor parade, homemade ice cream, food by Two Fat Men Catering, and of course lots and lots of vintage tractors and engines.

Event Coordinator Charles Allen told the council, “I want to invite everybody up Saturday morning.  We should have a good show; we’ve been working hard on it.  With the grace of God and y’all’s help, everything is going good.

“I do know it brings some money into Hanceville, but it’s mainly because we enjoy it.  It’s a good place to get together.  Dr. Vicki (Karolewics) up at the college has been good about saying, ‘Hey, here’s our campus; help yourself.’  That’s great, that really helps.”

The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be Thursday, June 22, at Hanceville City Hall at 6:30 p.m. with work session at 6 p.m.  The public is invited to attend.
