CULLMAN COUNTY – Two Cullman County men were arrested in the past week in unrelated incidences for multiple sex offenses. Kenneth Loyd Woods, 49, of Fairview was arrested and charged with second-degree rape, two counts of electronic solicitation of a child and two counts of transmitting obscene material to a child. Joshua Dwayne Aker, 36, of Cullman was arrested and charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.
During an investigation, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) investigators learned that Woods, a registered sex offender, was possibly distributing pills and alcohol to underage students at a Cullman County high school. As the investigation progressed it was determined that the suspect would allegedly demand payment, “other than a monetary value,” according to a media release from the CCSO, for the pills and alcohol that he was selling to the underage students.
Woods is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $400,000 bond.
In an unrelated case, CCSO investigators arrested Aker after being contacted by Cullman Regional and being alerted to the possible rape of a minor child. Investigators identified the suspect as Aker and located him on County Road 222, where they conducted a traffic stop and arrested Aker on multiple outstanding warrants. Shortly thereafter he was also arrested on the sex offense charges.
Aker is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center without bond due to his previous FTA (failure to appear) warrants.
“Sexual crimes against children are the most difficult for us as law enforcement to deal with because it brings out just about every emotion you have as a human being. Frankly, Woods has proven he is a danger to our community as he is a registered sex offender already. That’s why we, the deputies, go out once a month to check each registered sex offender because they have already proven they can’t be trusted around children,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “Again, I am very glad of the job the investigators did in arresting both these suspects.”
