CULLMAN – The Cullman County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a citizens’ firearms safety class Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at Cullman City Hall.

The class will focus on how to safely handle a weapon, the proper technique for shooting a weapon, cleaning a weapon and becoming familiar with your own weapon. A PowerPoint presentation will be shown as well.

Following the class on Tuesday night, citizens can sign up to attend a safety course at the shooting range.

"We here at the Cullman County Sheriff's Office are advocates of our citizens having the knowledge and training they need to protect themselves," said Sheriff Matt Gentry. "I would add that we want them to also know how to handle the weapon safely and with this free training they are able to gain valuable knowledge in both these areas.”

To register, email Capt. Mark Persall at mpersall@cullmansheriff.org or call him at 256-734-0342. Registration is not required, but is encouraged so deputies have an idea of how many participants will be attending.
