CULLMAN – A Cullman County man is behind bars facing charges of electronic solicitation of a child, which is a Class B felony.

Cullman County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) deputies on Sunday conducted a welfare check on County Road 1669 at the home of Presley Jack Johnson, Jr., 55, of Cullman County. According to a news release from the sheriff's office, deputies spoke with witnesses at the residence who claimed Johnson had been sending inappropriate text messages to a minor child.

Johnson allegedly fled the scene when he arrived home in his vehicle, but deputies stopped and detained him a short time later.

The CCSO says evidence was found on the suspect's phone that was sexual in nature, and the suspect was placed under arrest for electronic solicitation of a child.

"I would like to commend the deputies and investigators who conducted the welfare check that led to this arrest. As I have said many times there is no lower person than someone who would take advantage of our children," said Sheriff Matt Gentry. "I would also encourage parents to randomly check their children's text messages and social media accounts to see who they are speaking with because you never know who may be trying to take advantage of them."

Johnson is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond. He could face additional charges.

The investigation in ongoing.
