CULLMAN – Heritage Park was abuzz with activity Saturday as the Cullman High School Pre-State Blowout began bracket play. Unfortunately, it was one and done for the Cullman Lady Bearcats and the Good Hope Lady Raiders.

Hayden 7, Cullman 6

Seventy minutes was not enough time to determine a winner as the Lady Cats and Lady Wildcats took it to the limit in the 11 a.m. game in the big school bracket.

Cullman got on the board first with an RBI single from McKensi Burks that scored Bailey Swann, who had reached base with a one-out double. Burks came home on a Hannah Morton double to put the Lady Cats on top 2-0.

Hayden picked up their first run in the bottom of the third when Chloe Kirkland doubled home a run to make it 2-1.

Cullman got the run back in the the fourth when Swann doubled home Meredith McPherson.

Hayden tied the game at three on a two-run single by Evin Bibb as time expired.

Cullman took the lead right back in the top of the sixth when Sierra Easterwood knocked in a run. Burks followed with a two-run double to score Swann and Easterwood and put the Lady Cats in good position to take the game back, but it was not to be. Hayden plated four in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Kaitlyn Woodard and a pair RBI singles by Kirkland and Bibb

Hayden took the game, 7-6.

JB Pennington 4, Good Hope 0

It was all Lady Tigers as JB Pennington defeated the Good Hope Lady Raiders 4-0.

Pennington took the lead in the bottom of the first on a sac fly by Alanna Goble and never looked back.

The big inning for Pennington came in the bottom of the third. Allison Adams led off the inning with a triple.  Kayla Putman doubled her home to make the score 2-0, but the big blow came off the bat of Goble who smashed a two-run home run to center field to make the score 4-0.

The Lady Tigers went on to win 4-0.
