CULLMAN – A high-speed chase late this afternoon ended in the arrest of one man on Interstate 65 South. The chase involved officers from the Cullman City Police Department.
"We had some officers watching a house where there was suspected drug use," said Police Chief Kenny Culpepper. "Officers attempted to make a stop on two vehicles at the residence. Both stopped, but one took off when the officers exited their vehicle."
Culpepper says the officers pursued the fleeing suspect up Highway 31 North through Vinemont, where the suspect exited at Lacon and proceeded southbound, at which time officers observed what they suspected to be drugs thrown from the vehicle.
"Two marked city police cars were able to stop the vehicle. The suspect has been arrested," said Culpepper, who stated officers were active at the Lacon exit, searching for the item thrown from the car.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) was not involved in the pursuit, according to the ALEA North Communications Office. Troopers did work the scene of the incident after the chase ended.
