CULLMAN – Six local beauties will vie for the coveted title of 2017 Ms. Senior Cullman County tomorrow. The popular pageant is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre on the campus of Wallace State Community College.
Ms. Senior Cullman County 2016, Elaine Willingham, also the reigning Ms. Senior Alabama, will provide entertainment. She will be joined by her students from Cullman Ballet Theatre.
This year’s talented field of contestants are active and engaged in the community. The 2017 participants are:
- Linda Bradford/senior citizen planning board member/ talent: monolog
- Marlys Ross/vice president of the Cullman Pilot Club/ talent: singing
- Catherine Downs/Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center/ talent: line dancing
- Donna Harris/ medical sonographer/ talent: piano
- Janis Simmons/ church volunteer/talent: singing
- Jennifer Parker/ Pilot Light House, relief houseparent/talent: singing
Said Pageant Director Angie Carter, “I sure wouldn’t want to be a judge this year! All of these ladies are beautiful and their talent is great!”
The pageant, which started in 1971, is now in its 46th year. The Ms. Senior Alabama pageant, which is an affiliate of Ms. Senior America, Inc., will be the next stop for Saturday’s winner.
Over the years, the pageant has grown, with entry numbers fluctuating from time to time, but its popularity keeps folks coming back each time.
Admission is $5, and children younger than 5 will be admitted free. For another $5, attendees can take home a commemorative program.
“I can’t wait to see who this year’s winner is!” said Carter.
