If you got this in your electric bill, you’ve won a free trip to the dump!
CULLMAN COUNTY – As part of the 2017 Annual Spring Clean-Up, the Cullman County Commission is offering county residents a free trip to the landfill during May. Certificates for one free dump were included in bills sent out by the Cullman Electric Cooperative in April.
Sanitation Manager James Rollo said, “The County Commission has done this for about the last 10 years. They send a certificate out to all paying customers; you should get it in your electric bill. It lets you bring in what we don’t pick up, for free.”
Rollo specified that certain items cannot be dropped off. The landfill does not take paint, tires, batteries or hazardous materials. Since it is a dry dump, it does not accept any liquids.
Those wishing to take advantage of the program can make one free trip to the landfill during the month, at any time the facility is open. Hours are Mon.-Fri. 7 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sat. 7 a.m.-12 noon. Residents must fill out and present the certificate at the landfill when they arrive. The offer is for residential customers only; commercial and business garbage will not be accepted.
Rollo also talked about a year-round free pickup service available from the Cullman County Sanitation Department: once per year per household, the department will send a truck to pick up large items like appliances, sofas, chairs and mattresses. Trucks go out every other Tuesday; residents must call ahead to schedule a pickup at their address.
The landfill is located at 2805 Alabama Highway 69, Cullman, AL 35057.
For more information on the free dump, or to schedule a large item pickup, call the Sanitation Department at 256-287-1142.
