CULLMAN – New swimmer tryouts for the Cullman Swim Team, the Cullman Tritons, started Wednesday and will also be on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The team will look for a breakout season this summer.
Third-year head coach Lisa Martin looks to see her swimming tryouts go well and have at least 25 people on the team when June hits.
"I believe that we will do really well this season." Martin said. "Last season, we did well, but we had some disappointing meets. We will be going up against really large municipalities, such as Madison, but if we can get as least 25 people on the team, I think we will do really well. We did good in the area last season. We do not need to improve on anything; we just need to keep working hard. Our 15-to-18-year-old girls and boys look really good."
Martin has three assistants: Ryleigh Edwards, Lauren O'Dell and Jordan Windham; all of them have four years of experience.
Martin added, "They have helped train the swimmers and that will help motivate our team."
The Tritons, a summer league competitive swim and dive team offered through Cullman City Parks and Recreation, will have nine swim meets, which will start in June, and take place every Tuesday and Thursday.
