CULLMAN – Road construction is underway on approximately 5.5 miles of U.S. Highway 278 in Cullman County, from just west of I-65, all the way east to the junction of U.S. 278 and Alabama Highway 69 in East Point.
Nighttime lane closures began this week, and will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).
The stretch of highway is being repaved and improvements made for safety.
"Work will be going on throughout the summer. The majority of the work, including concrete work and resurfacing, will be performed at night. We do not anticipate any daytime lane closures," said ALDOT North Region Information Specialist Seth Burkett,
Good Hope Contracting (GHC) is in charge of the work; GHC was awarded the contract for $2,885,781.32.
