Shoppers inspect the goods of a record number of vendors at the farmer’s market

CULLMAN – The Festhalle Market Platz Farmer’s Market saw brisk business Saturday, as visitors found a record number of vendors selling produce, seedling plants, meat, packaged granola, homemade jelly, pottery, cloth goods, wooden toys and other goods.

Manager Wendy Williams explained, “This is our third Saturday.  This is the biggest Saturday we’ve had, as far as the farmers and the customers.  The farmers have pretty much got all their main gardens planted, so in a few more weeks we’ll have more variety of fruits and vegetables.  We’ve got a little bit of everything up here; you can get all your plants for your garden.

“So far, we’ve had a really good turnout.  We’ve got about 21 vendors here today.  We’ve been averaging the last couple of weekends about 19.  Our opening day was 19, and that’s the biggest opening since the market was built here.”

As an added treat, the office and restroom building has just been decorated with a mural by local artist Donald Walker.

The Farmer’s Market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the end of October. Find it at 209 First Ave. NE in Cullman.
