CULLMAN – Fairview's domination in the Cullman County High School Golf Tournament continued Thursday at Cross Creek Course with three more championship trophies heading toward the campus.
The Aggies stayed on top in their division, running away with the title by shooting a 355 on Thursday and finishing the 36-hole event with a 694, 30 strokes ahead of runner-up Good Hope who carded a score of 724.
Fairview's Lady Aggies created plenty of breathing room for themselves against Good Hope, getting a final round 292 to the Lady Raiders' 382 and taking home the title with a 573.
The Fairview junior varsity shot almost the same score from round one on Wednesday at Chesley Oaks. The Aggies' 410 on Wednesday was a 411 for Thursday's final round and a run away for the title from West Point who had a 432 and Good Hope with a 491.
In total, the Fairview varsity have won three consecutive Cullman County championships with the girls claiming seven in a row and the junior varsity on an eight-year championship winning streak.
Hunter McKelvy carried the Aggies to the team title with a final round 78 and a two-day score of 155. Jacob Allen was second with a 174, Hunter Yeager 176 and Josh Barnes 192.
Good Hope's scoring was paced by Cole Pearson with a 145, Josh Cofer a 162, Riley Eisner 207 and John King 210.
West Point got a 756 for both days as Graham Nelson tallied a 182, Brandon Farley finished with a 183 and Bailey Calvert a 209.
For Hanceville, the Bulldogs' scored an 827 with Zach Hudson carding a 193, George Oden 195, Hank Radcliff 203 and Dustin Auletti a 236.
After the first round in the individual category, Holly Pond's Dawson Foust was on top with an even-par 71, while Pearson of Good Hope was a shot behind at 72 and McKelvy in third place with a 77.
Pearson's 73 bettered Foust's 81 for the final round, sending him to accept the title trophy with a 145. Foust was second with a 152, McKelvy third with a 155 while Cofer was fourth at 162, Allen in fifth place at 174 and Nelson sixth with a 182. All these players earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Varsity girls:
While Fairview took the title with a 573, the individual crown was up for grabs as Fairview's Maci Yeager and Cold Springs' Katie Tangye were tied for the lead following the first round at Chesley Oaks with a score of 89.
Tangye, an eighth grader, handled Cross Creek well in the final round, getting another 89 and edging Yeager for the individual title with a 178.
Yeager, who has signed to play at Wallace State next year, was three shots back with a 181. Hope Bowen of Fairview got a 194 with teammate Emmy Leigh Glover shooting a 201. These four were selected all-tournament.
Good Hope's scoring featured Taryn Collins with a 206, Leah Bailey a 256 and Callie Shelton a 260.
Junior varsity:
Carter Robinson of Fairview carried the Aggies to the title with a two-day score of 186, Devan Jennings finished with a 193, Tanner Whitehead 217 and Nic Bryant 230.
Devin Jenkins' 211 was the best score for runner-up West Point with Garrett Willingham a 220, Raylon Moore 227 and Deakon Hembree getting a 234.
Good Hope was led by Tripp Taylor with a two-day total of 232, Max Bavar 238, Alex McDonald 246 and John Standridge a 267.
All varsity teams and individual players will look to postseason play that will be coming up at the end of April.
