FAIRVIEW – It was a perfect day for baseball Tuesday as the Fairview Aggies welcomed the Hayden Wildcats to town.

After a scoreless first, Hayden jumped out to what seemed like an unsurmountable lead. Matt Kendrick started the inning with a grounder that hugged the third base line, finding its way into left field for a lead-off single. Nick Purvis followed with a grounder through the hole at short for a single. Ben Abernathy loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice. Colton Shirley drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kendrick to put the Wildcats on top 1-0, but they were not done. Kade Marlin brought Purvis home on a fielder’s choice grounder, but the big blow in the inning came from Preston Key when he looped a blooper into center field to score Abernathy and Marlin to give Hayden a 4-0 advantage after one and a half innings.

It took until the third inning for the Aggies bats to come alive, but they came to life in a big way. Lane Schnitiker got the Fairview offense started with a one-out walk. Clay Lanier was hit by a pitch to put two on with one out. Preston Moore loaded the bags with an infield single and that is where the flood gates opened. Dayne Black, Regan Ashley and Tyler Ball each recorded RBI singles to right to make the score 4-3. The Aggies tied the game when Riley Carroll earned an RBI the hard way, taking a pitch to the side. Derrick Jones started the inning with a strike-out, but he ended it with a two-RBI single to left, giving the Aggies a 6-4 lead that they never lost.

Fairview added a pair of runs to their total in the bottom of the fourth on a Tyler Ball two-RBI triple to make the score 8-4 in favor of the Aggies.

Hayden struck back in the top of the sixth with Duncan McReath and Cody Snow picking RBIs, but it was too little, too late as the Aggies added another run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI bunt single by Ashley to make the score 9-6. Hayden picked up a lead-off single in the top of the eighth, but two strikeouts and a foul out ended the game and gave the Fairview Aggies the 9-6 late-night victory.
