TRIMBLE – Although the circumstances surrounding the head-on collision that killed a mother and daughter Tuesday night in Trimble are still under investigation, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said today that their preliminary investigation indicates speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
The incident occurred Tuesday night at approximately 8:24 p.m. near the 8000 block of County Road 813, close to the entrance of Smith Lake Park.
Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick early Wednesday morning confirmed the two fatalities. Tonya J. Busbee, 34, of Bremen and her daughter, Rhianna Busbee, 13, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Busbees were traveling south in a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck, when the driver of a northbound vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Impala, allegedly crossed the center line and struck them head on. ALEA today identified the driver of the Impala as Jonathan Biggs, 53, of Dayton, Ohio.
Biggs was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
