FALKVILLE – Wet conditions prevented the Falkville High School baseball invitational tournament from continuing on Tuesday.
Monday night's rain soaked the field at Falkville High School with Blue Devils' coach Jonathan Lacy and his staff unable to get the diamond ready as the schedule was officially canceled by noon.
The Tribune got in contact with Good Hope coach Mitch Witcher, who reported the Raiders were unavailable to continue on Wednesday, if conditions improve for the schedule to resume. Good Hope had several players that could not attend Wednesday due to prior obligations.
The event was a round-robin schedule involving the Raiders, tournament host Falkville, plus Hanceville, Sumiton Christian and Cleveland. Each was to play four games between Monday and Wednesday, with two being the most allowed for any of the schools in a one-day period.
Three of the five games slated for Monday got played with Falkville defeating Good Hope 5-1, Good Hope coming back to knock Cleveland 14-1 and Hanceville winning by a 16-1 margin over Cleveland.
The rain arrived in the late afternoon with the Hanceville-Sumiton Christian game stopped in the first inning. Sumiton was to play Falkville under the lights, but didn't due to heavy rain.
Good Hope's schedule for Tuesday was to be against Hanceville and Sumiton Christian.
Hanceville had an assignment with Falkville, besides their scheduled battle with Good Hope.
According to the AHSAA website, Sumiton Christian and Cleveland are to play Wednesday at 2 p.m., followed by Falkville and Cleveland at 4 p.m. These were originally scheduled games in the tournament.
There was no official word on whether the Hanceville-Sumiton Chirtsian game and the Hanceville-Falkville game would be played Wednesday.
Good Hope takes the rest of the week off and gets the 4A, Area 10 schedule underway next Tuesday with a trip to Cordova and will host the Blue Devils in a doubleheader on April 6.
Hanceville faces Oakman in 3A, Area 12 play with a single game next Monday at Hanceville and a twinbill the following day at Oakman. The Bulldogs are 1-1 in area play.
