CULLMAN – The Cullman Band Boosters’ (CBB) effort to purchase new uniforms for the Cullman High School Band continues with an upcoming series of spirit nights at local restaurants.

CBB President Mary Hovater shared about the project, "The boosters are the only support the Cullman bands have.  We supply beginner, middle school and high school bands with music, uniforms and anything they need.  That is over 300 students!  The bands are not supplemented from any other source.  And up until a year or so ago we paid for the assistant director.  And we will not ask the system as we do not wish to take funds from any other program that might need it."

The purchase of new uniforms won't just benefit the CHS band.  When they receive new equipment, they will hand off their 10-year-old uniforms to replace the 20-year-old outfits currently being used by Cullman Middle School.

Hovater said, "The middle school uniforms, even though they were taken very good care of, are in such bad shape they are falling apart.  But what wouldn't after 20 years?  The high school uniforms are being darned regularly, and with lots of TLC will be in good enough shape to last another 10 years for the middle school."

CBB set up a bank fund several years ago with the idea that new uniforms would cost around $45,000.  Since then, equipment cost hikes have changed the goal, which could exceed $60,000.  Recent events like the Big Band Dance and direct donations have raised $3,000, but still leave the boosters about $12,000 short.  Continuing efforts hope to cut that amount yet again.

Hovater concluded with a plea, "We aren't rich. Every dime we have has been earned by the blood sweat and tears of these boosters who want the best for the children who work so hard. But now we ask you, our beloved Cullman community, to please help us support our children."

Hovater shared a calendar of upcoming “Spirit Night” events around town.  For more information, visit the links provided under each event.
