VINEMONT – It was tough sledding at Mike Cupp Field Friday afternoon as the Vinemont Eagles welcomed the New Hope Indians to town.
Vinemont looked as if they were going to put the game away early; Clay Rogers was dynamite on the mound and he had plenty support at the plate. Garrett Boland started the game with a single to left, but two quick outs and it looked as if he would be stranded. He took it upon himself to get into scoring position by swiping second. Derrick Ransom brought him home with a single to make the score 1-0 after one.
The Eagles went right back to work in the second as Travis Hopper started the inning with a single. Two batters later Dakota McGraw moved him around to second with a single. Two batters later Boland was plunked with a pitch to load the bases. Back-to-back New Hope errors plated two Eagles and a big two-run single by Ransom made the score 5-0 after two.
In the top of the third, New Hope started to scratch and claw their way back in the game with two RBI singles to make the score 5-2.
Vinemont added another run in the bottom of the third when Boland earned an RBI the hard way, getting hit with a pitch with the bases loaded, upping the score to 6-2.
New Hope exploded in the fourth for six big runs. An infield single, a walk and an error plated the first Indian run and opened the flood gates with the big blow coming off the bat of Edwards, a two-RBI single making the score 8-6. The Indians tacked on another run in the top of the seventh via a squeeze by Hunter Thomas to push the score to 9-6. Vinemont played tough in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to scratch a run across and fell to the Indians by a final of 9-6.
