CULLMAN – In the fourth annual Cullman Shamrock Invitational, Cullman looked to get off to a good start following their 7-3 loss to Albertville just three days ago. They were in a battle against the Arab Lady Knights today, and all the goals were scored in the first half by both teams. The Lady Bearcats went on to win, 2-1.
It did not take long for Arab to find the scoreboard, with just under three minutes off the clock as Madison Anderson scored a goal. Almost seven minutes later, Cullman tied the game when Ninfa Moreno shot it to the right of the goalie with 20:42 remaining in the first half.
Just when each team thought they could take the lead, the other stopped them from doing so, but at the 19:12 mark, Abigail Branham got a great pass from her teammate, putting it in the net to put the Lady Bearcats on top, 2-1.
In the second half, Cullman stopped Arab’s multiple attempts to tie the contest. The Lady Bearcats missed out on some golden opportunities themselves as a couple of shots were kicked just over the net and the Lady Knights' goalkeeper made some big saves during the game to keep the deficit at one. Arab had one final chance with less than 20 seconds left in the game, but Cullman deflected the Lady Knights' goalkeeper's kick out of bounds to hold on to the win.
Cullman improved to 10-2-1 on the season and will take on Helena at 7:30 tonight. Arab fell to 9-2-1 on the season and will take on Hazel Green tonight at 7:45.
