WEST POINT – It may have been cold during West Point's home game vs. Danville, but the bats were certainly red-hot from both sides early on. Unfortunately for the Lady Warriors, the Lady Hawks were the ones that kept the pressure on for the whole game as their offense scored early and often, and they handed West Point a 15-4 loss after five innings due to the deficit being more than 10 runs.

Danville did not waste any time getting on the board to start off the game. Morgan Weatherwax led off the game with a single to left field on the first pitch, then after a pop-up for the first out, Madalyn Holladay swung at the first pitch and reached on an infield single. After a strikeout for out number two, Callie Ryan, on the first pitch as well, hit an RBI single to give Danville an early 1-0 lead. Anna Cobb hit a two-run single to increase the Lady Hawk lead to 3-0.

West Point answered right back in their half. A single by Gracie Abbott, an error, then an Olivia Ball walk, loaded the bases with no outs for Makayla Brown, who hit a two-run single; Lillie Burdette added a sacrifice fly later on in the inning to tie the game at three after the first.

In the third inning, Danville's Ryan reached on a one-out infield single and scored on an RBI double to right center field by Cobb, who later scored on a wild pitch, to give the Lady Hawks a 5-3 lead after their half-inning. Brown hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom half for West Point to make it a 5-4 game, but that was the last run scored by the Lady Warriors, as Danville added three runs in the fourth- an RBI double by Free and a two-run double by Cobb- and seven more in the fifth- another RBI double by Free, an RBI single by Holladay and a two-run double by Emma Broadfoot- and scored on a bad throw by the catcher and a two-run home run by Savannah Pelfrey to give Danville a very comfortable 15-4 lead, which was the final score.

Every Danville player had at least one hit in the game. Anna Cobbs went 4-of-4 and had five RBIs. Weatherwax, Free, Holladay, Ryan and Pelfrey went a combined 10-of-16 with six RBIs. Broadfoot went 1-of-4 with a double and two RBIs. Pelfrey went the distance, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on seven hits, walking three and striking out none to help her team improve to 1-1 on the season. Their road trip continues tomorrow as they will travel to East Lawrence.

Brown went 2-of-2 with a home run and three RBIs for West Point. Burdette went 0-of-2 with an RBI. Abbott went 3-of-3 with a run scored. Avery McClure added a single. Josey Gammon went an inning, gave up seven hits, five runs, walked one and struck out one. Carlie Wilkins went four innings, gave up 10 hits, eight runs, six of them earned, walked three and struck out none. They fall to 2-1 on the season and they will stay at home against Holly Pond tomorrow.
