ADDISON – It was senior night for the Addison Bulldogs as they took on the St. Bernard Saints. The girls won easily, 63-26, while the boys fell, 63-44.
St. Bernard 63, Addison 44 (Boys)
A big 22-2 third quarter by St. Bernard was the difference in their final game of the regular season.
Caleb Guthery got the scoring started for the Saints with a layup. Logan Wilkins hit a free throw to put Addison on the scoreboard. There were four lead changes and three ties in the opening quarter. Threes by Jacob Blackburn and Braxton Preuitt helped Addison take a 14-10 lead after one.
The second quarter saw Addison take their biggest lead, which was six, twice. They held a 26-21 lead after an Oakley Gilbreath layup off a missed free throw by Caleb Ergle, but an and one by Luis Zatarain, and a three by Christian Peterson, gave the Saints their first lead since midway in the first quarter, 27-26, with 1:27 remaining in the first half. Addison tied the game at 27 on a free throw by Logan Wilkins, which was the score at the half.
The third quarter was all St. Bernard, as they outhustled Addison on both offense and defense, forcing seven Bulldog turnovers and allowing only a layup by Gilbreath, as they turned a tie game into a 49-29 rout after three. Addison outscored St. Bernard, 15-14, in the final quarter, but the third quarter deficit was just too much to overcome, as St. Bernard went on to win, 63-44.
Peterson ended up with 22 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals. Elijah Price finished with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and also added two steals and three blocks. Miguel Sanchez had eight points, four rebounds and five steals. The Saints will travel to Cold Springs next Tuesday to take on the Eagles in the area tournament.
Gilbreath finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals for Addison. Matthew Mann had nine points, six rebounds and two steals in his final regular season game at home. Wilkins finished with eight points, nine rebounds, a block and a steal.
Addison 63, St. Bernard 36 (Girls)
Addison jumped out to a 23-12 first quarter lead, and they cruised from there to win on senior night.
They led 37-19 at the half, and 61-30 after three.
Maison Evans finished with 20 points in her final regular season home game. Kendra Tyree had 15 points. Kaylee Brummett ended up with eight points. They improve to 24-4 on the season.
Anna Myers finished with 12 points to lead St. Bernard. Emma Tafazoli ended up with nine. The Lady Saints will play Winston County on Monday at Cold Springs in the area tournament.
