MOULTON – West Point traveled to Lawrence County looking to finish strong in their last road games of the regular season.
Lawrence County 61, West Point 59 (Boys)
Neither team wasted any time, getting off to quick starts offensively. Lawrence County's Mason Lee hit back-to-back threes to give the Red Devils a 6-0 lead. West Point got on the scoreboard on a three of their own by Kolton Sapp. A combined seven threes were hit by both teams in the opening quarter, four by Lawrence County and three by West Point, and the Red Devils held a 21-15 lead after one.

West Point looked to start a comeback to begin the third quarter, and they did just that, as a three by Brandon Farley, and layups by Coby Sullins and Austin Dubberly, cut the lead to 38-27, but a layup by Lee and a three by John Proctor quickly stretched the lead to 43-27 in favor of Lawrence County. After Dubberly hit a layup to cut the lead to 12, Proctor and K'Lebb Taylor helped pushed the lead to 47-29. A three by Farley, and back-to-back threes by Sullins cut the lead to 57-53 with 1:11 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils did not help themselves out at the line as a lane violation and two missed free throws kept the Warriors in the game. After Proctor's missed free throw, Sapp nailed another three to make it a 57-56 game. Proctor and Lee each split at the line on their next trips to make it a one-possession game at 59-56 with 35 seconds left. Farley got fouled down low, and he missed his free throw attempt. Lee nailed two more from the line with 20.7 seconds remaining to give Lawrence County a 61-56 lead. West Point looked to get a quick shot, but they could not get anything to fall, but Dubberly got a three from the left wing to make it a 61-59 game with .5 seconds remaining. They had one final chance to make the comeback official, but players from both teams collided while trying to get the in-bounds pass. West Point did not get the call, and Lawrence County was able to escape with the two-point win.
Lee finished with 19 points and added a steal and a block. Proctor ended up with 12 points. Taylor had nine points, and picked up four steals as well. Austin Brewer finished with eight points. The Red Devils improve to 9-15 on the season. They will finish the season tomorrow at home against Hartselle.

"I told the guys at the half, our shooting percentage was low," West Point coach Randy Jones said. "We needed to start making shots. We also needed to play better on defense as we were giving them way too many easy shots. We started to play man-to-man defense in the second half, and it was big. We started to make some shots as well. We had our chances in the game, but I am very proud of my team for continuing to play hard in the second half. That shows the type of character that they have. They never quit on me."
