(UPDATED) Victim in Thursday night stabbing ID’d

According to Cullman City Police Capt. Becky Boyd, Young's condition has not changed. The knife used has been recovered.

"The investigation is still ongoing," said Boyd in a media release. "If anyone has any information on this crime, please contact Lt. Gene Bates at (the) Cullman Police Department, 256-775-7144."


CULLMAN –  The victim of a stabbing on Cullman's west side Thursday evening has been identified as Jimmy Lee Young, 44, of Falkville according to Cullman City Police Chief Kenny Culpepper. Young was air lifted to Huntsville Hospital last night. His current condition is not known at this time, although Culpepper confirmed that Young did make it through surgery. Young's assailant was identified shortly after the incident as Roger Dale Hines, 57. Hines was arrested late last night and charged with second-degree assault.

The incident happened at Dripping Springs Apartments on Dripping Springs Road, according to Culpepper.

Culpepper says that Officer Kelley Hubbard responded to a call about an altercation at approximately 6 p.m,Once she arrived, she found the victim had been stabbed," said Culpepper, who says that there was a party happening in the apartment at the time of the incident.

"After talking to partygoers, there was a suspect," he continued. "We learned that he left on foot, and was picked up by another car. Our officers found him."

Culpepper says that several subjects inside the apartment were drinking.

"We're still trying to figure out what happened. It is my understanding that everyone at the party was impaired."
