CULLMAN –  Cullman City Parks and Recreation’s third annual Community Wellness Day, including the Polar Bear Plunge, will go on as planned Saturday, in spite of frigid weather. Saturday's high will be a nippy 28 degrees. The projected temp at 11 a.m. (the time of the Plunge)? About 22 degrees.

The event will be held at the Wellness and Aquatic Center (CWAC) on Saturday, Jan. 7. Attendees can try classes, peruse the booths at the Community Health Fair and participate in the popular Polar Bear Plunge.

“The center will be open to the public for free swimming, exercise and trying out our featured line-up of fitness classes to get you in shape for the New Year,” said a release from CP&R.

The annual Polar Bear Plunge will begin at 11 a.m. Those brave enough to take the plunge into the ice-cold water of the outside pool will be entered to win a free one-year family membership to CWAC. There’s no admission fee to enter the Polar Bear Plunge, but you must show up early to sign a waiver. All ages are encouraged to attend. Participants will be placed into a drawing to win the free one-year family membership.

The Community Health Fair will have information on workout routines, personal training, nutritional supplements and more.

Folks who choose to join CWAC on Community Wellness Day will receive $50 off their membership fees.

CWAC is located at 1636 Field of Miracles Drive SW in Cullman. For more information, call 256-775-7946.
