CULLMAN –  The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6 to 3 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 for counties in the Tennessee Valley, including Cullman.

Light snow accumulations are possible Friday afternoon into Friday night. An upper level system will produce a band of light snow across the Tennessee Valley Friday afternoon into Friday night.

Snowfall amounts may reach up to around 1 inch in some locations. In addition, with temperatures falling into the teens Friday night, any moisture that melts will tend to refreeze rather quickly causing icy, hazardous travel conditions.

North winds of 10-20 mph Friday night into early Saturday morning will yield wind chills as low as 0-5 below in southern-middle Tennessee and 0-10 above in north Alabama.

This advisory is for the counties of Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, Dekalb and Cullman.

The following cities are included:

  • Huntsville
  • Decatur
  • Albertville
  • Boaz
  • Guntersville
  • Arab
  • Scottsboro
  • Fort Payne
  • Rainsville
  • Cullman

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility. Use caution when driving.
