CULLMAN – This is a continuation of our New Year’s series, in which we asked local leaders to comment on the memorable things they encountered in their positions in 2016, as well as their visions for 2017.  We have already heard from Cullman Fire Rescue Chief Edward Reinhardt, Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett, Cullman City Schools Superintendent Dr. Susan Patterson and Fairview Mayor Keith Henry.

Good Hope High School Principal John Hood

1.  What is the best thing you will remember about 2016?

"The best thing that I will remember about 2016 is becoming the principal of Good Hope High School. The students, faculty and staff of the school are unbelievable and have made it a great year already. God is good and allows me to be able to work at a job that I love."

2.  Is there anything you would like to forget about 2016?

"I cannot think of anything that I would like to forget. The only thing that I could think of would be mistakes that I have made, but learning from mistakes is important. Therefore, I hope that I can remember everything, learn something new every day, and become the best leader that I can be."

3.  What is the first thing or most important thing you anticipate seeing in 2017?

"The most important thing that I anticipate seeing in 2017 is the students of Good Hope High School be successful in all aspects of their high school lives."

Cullman County Economic Development Director Cherrie Haney

1.  What is the best thing you will remember about 2016?

"The best thing that happened in 2016 in my opinion was the 222 interchange.  Living here most of my life, that interchange has been needed for many years.  Going to the lake when I was a child, I often wondered why they didn’t have one there; it would have really cut the time in half, and to a child that is massive."

2.  Is there anything you would like to forget about 2016?

"I am big on history, good or bad.  I feel we learn from all of our mistakes, so no, I would not like to forget anything."

3.  What is the first thing or most important thing you anticipate seeing in 2017?

"Good growth for Cullman County; I would like to see good industries locate in our small towns."
