High school hoops resumes regular season Tuesday

CULLMAN COUNTY – Prep basketball across the area officially has one month left on the regular season. The regular schedule resumes Tuesday and will go through Feb. 3.

Looking ahead to the first week of January, the standings in the Cullman County varsity division are up for grabs between the 2nd seed to the 5th seed.

Entering this week, Cold Springs and Fairview are 3-2 in county games with Good Hope 2-2 and West Point 2-3.

Holly Pond has already wrapped up the top seed when the pairings are drawn Jan. 11 at the board of education office.

Good Hope plays at West Point Tuesday. The Raiders have Hanceville left on the schedule, completing an assignment with each county team once prior to the draw. The Raiders and Bulldogs play Jan. 10.

Cold Springs is at Hanceville for a varsity game Thursday. 

The parity has been well displayed with everyone beating up on each other for the positions behind Holly Pond.

Fairview gets Vinemont in a makeup game at Fairview on Saturday. This game was postponed on Nov. 29 due to severe weather in the area that evening.

The regular schedule for Friday will consist of five assignments that are area games for the girls and varsity.

Cold Springs is tops in 2A, Area 13 in girls and varsity at 2-0.

Cullman girls are 2-1 in 6A, Area 14, a game behind Brewer in the standings. The Bearcats are 0-3 in area play. 

Fairview girls are leaders in 5A, Area 12 at 3-0 with Fairview 2-1 in the varsity, trailing Hayden who is 3-0.

Good Hope's Lady Raiders have a 2-1 record in 4A, Area 10, currently in first with Dora behind them at 1-1.

The Raiders are 2-1 in their side of the area standings, trailing Cordova who is 2-0.

The Hanceville girls are 1-2 in 3A, Area 12 with Carbon Hill on top at 3-0, followed by Oakman at 2-1.

In varsity play, Carbon Hill and Hanceville are 2-1 with Carbon Hill owning the tiebreaker currently. Vinemont and Oakman are right behind at 1-2.

Holly Pond's Lady Broncos are 0-3 in 3A, Area 11 with Locust Fork owning the top spot of the standings at 3-0.

The Broncos have controlled this area from the beginning, heading into January 3-0.

For St. Bernard, the Lady Saints have a 2-1 record in 2A, Area 13, which has them second to Cold Springs.

The Saints are 1-2 in area play, trailing Cold Springs and Winston County.

Vinemont Lady Eagles are 0-3 in 3A, Area 12 with the Eagles 1-2 going into this month of area play.

West Point Lady Warriors have a 2-1 record in 5A, Area 12, trailing Fairview with the Warriors 0-3 in area play.
