CULLMAN – An early-morning house fire near Cullman Middle School resulted in a total loss of the structure, but no fatalities or injuries, according to Cullman Fire Rescue Chief Edward Reinhardt, Jr.
The fire occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. at 109 Eighth St. NE, which is between the school and the railroad crossing.
Reinhardt says that initial reports were that a person or persons were in the home at the time of the blaze, but that anyone who was in the house escaped before firefighters arrived.
"There was heavy damage; this was a total loss," he said. "The crews did a good job getting it out quickly. We had the Cullman Police Department, EMS and the utilities and gas company got there to turn the power off."
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but according to Reinhardt, "We're looking right now towards a heating source as a possibility."
The local Red Cross is on-hand to assist the occupants, if needed.
