CULLMAN – A Hartselle man, Joshua Earl Hanners, 28, was arrested in Cullman on Tuesday and charged with unlawful possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hanners was arrested by Cullman City Police Department (CPD) Officers Trey Higginbotham and Philip Botelho after the two observed a Ford Explorer traveling on Childhaven Road with an expired tag. Higginbotham and Botelho initiated a traffic stop, and as the vehicle was coming to a stop, the driver, Hanners, allegedly threw a small dark bag out of the window.
Officers retrieved the bag, which contained between 14-15 grams of ICE methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Hanners was placed under arrest and transported to the Cullman County Detention Center, where he was held on a $6,000 property bond.
CPD Narcotics Investigator Chris Thomason commended Higginbotham and Botelho for their work in making the arrest.
“Anytime as a law enforcement officer that we are able to keep these drugs away from all of the children growing up in this community, it’s a win,” he said.
Residents with information on illegal drug activity are asked to call Thomason or Justin Craft at 256-775-7179.
