SIMCOE – A house fire on County Road 1635 in the Simcoe community resulted in a total loss of the structure this afternoon. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the blaze.

"This was a structure fire, but no one was in the house at the time," said Fairview Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Mark West. "They pretty much lost everything."

The Fairview VFD, along with the department from Gold Ridge, were called to the scene of the fire at approximately 3:20 p.m.

The house was a rental, according to West, who says that the home was in the process of being remodeled.

"The cause is unknown," said West, "but it's probably something electrical."

The Cullman County chapter of the American Red Cross is meeting with members of the Fairview VFD this evening to coordinate relief efforts for the occupants.
