HOLLY POND – It was business as usual when the undefeated Holly Pond Broncos (9-0) welcomed the J.B. Pennington Tigers (2-8) to Felton Easterwood Gymnasium Friday night.
After the Broncos missed their first four shots, Drew Jones ignited the crowd with a two-handed gorilla dunk, opening the floodgates as Holly Pond went on a 19-0 run that lasted the majority of the quarter and gave the Broncos a 26-4 lead after one.
Holly Pond continued their onslaught on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Griffin Morris, Jacob Harris, Michael Lambert, Bailey Smith and Jones all contributed to the 24-point outburst that gave Holly Pond a commanding 50-22 lead going to the half.
Although they were down 28 after two quarters of play, the Tigers came out shooting well in the third. However, Holly Pond was able to withstand the surge and kept their lead tact, taking a 27-point lead headed to the fourth.
Less than two minutes into the fourth, Andrew Shaw hit an easy layup, putting the Broncos up 30 to ensure the rest of the fourth would be played under the hot clock rule. This was the sixth time the Broncos have led by 30 or more in the fourth. The Broncos went on to take the game 84-55 to improve to 10-0 as they get ready to welcome the Good Hope Raiders to town Monday night.

It was a rough outing for the Lady Broncos Friday night as they were a combined 3 for 24 in the first half, but the great free throw shooting, 11 of 14, kept them in the game and gave them a 19-18 lead going to the half.
Holly Pond found their shot in the third but, unfortunately, so did Pennington. The Lady Tigers built a as much as a nine-point lead in the quarter but Holly Pond was able to cut the lead to three on the strength of an 8-2 run to end the third.
The Lady Broncos pulled to within one early in the fourth on a pair of free throws by Ruth Horton. The action went back and forth in the last frame but Holly Pond was unable to reclaim the lead as Pennington went on to take the victory, dropping the Lady Broncos to 1-6 on the year. The Lady Broncos are in action again next Monday against the Good Hope Lady Raiders.
