CULLMAN – It was like night and day Tuesday night as the St. Bernard Saints played host to the Addison Bulldogs in area action.
It took three full minutes for the first field goal of the night to be hit, a 2-point basket by Christian Peterson of St. Bernard, but from that basket on, it was all Saints. They went on to score 18 points in the quarter with points by Caleb Guthery, Miguel Sanchez, Elijah Price and Luis Zatarain while holding Addison to a single basket by Noah Rice.
St. Bernard continued the offensive onslaught in the second, nearly doubling their point total from the first quarter while, once again, holding Addison to just a single field goal in the frame. After 16 minutes of play, the Saints held a commanding 34-4 lead over the Bulldogs.
The second half was more of the same with St. Bernard dominating both ends of the floor. Addison bested their total first half output by scoring five in the third, but it was not enough as St. Bernard built a 47-point lead heading into the fourth quarter that was played with a hot clock. The Saints went on to take the game with a final score of 62-9 as they head into their match-up with Vinemont Thursday at Vinemont.
Addison 44, St. Bernard 29 (Girls)
The Lady Saints had the opposite problem as their male counterparts as the had a tough time scoring in their contest. The Lady Saints were just 1 of 15 from the floor in the first quarter, falling into a 13-3 hole to the Lady Bulldogs.
St. Bernard fought hard in the second quarter, and despite going 3 of 17, managed to stay close to Addison and only trailed 24-12 at the half.
Addison came out of the locker room with a renewed purpose in the second half, dropping in 10 while holding St. Bernard to just two. After three quarters of play, the Lady Bulldogs were on top 34-14.
St. Bernard had their best offensive performance in the fourth and final quarter, scoring 15, but they could not overcome their subpar shooting in the first three quarters, falling to Addison 44-29.
