CULLMAN – Three local basketball teams feasted on the opposition during Thanksgiving week and remain undefeated as December quickly approaches.

Holly Pond was as sharp as a ball club could be three weeks into the new season. The Broncos finished the Holly Pond Thanksgiving Tournament without a loss, controlling Arab 79-60, Cullman 72-53 and West Morgan 74-44.

Mitch Morris' Broncos are the only varsity program in the Cullman Tribune/CullmanSense coverage area that is undefeated. The Broncos eye the new week with a 6-0 record.

Two teams that stood out above everyone else in the inaugural West Point Girls Thanksgiving Tournament were the tournament host Lady Warriors along with the Cold Springs Lady Eagles.

West Point got four victories prior to the holiday while Cold Springs went 3-0 in the event. The Lady Eagles had one less game due to Guntersville having to cancel last Wednesday with the flu affecting more than half of their squad.

John Welborn's Lady Warriors go into the upcoming week 7-0 while Welborn’s sister, Tammy West, has her Lady Eagles 5-0.

Another team that is right on the heels of early season success is Fairview. The Lady Aggies finished second again to Athens in the Danville Lady Hawks' Thanksgiving Classic.

Fairview pushed the strong Golden Eagles to the limit, falling short in the closing seconds 63-57. Mary Hartline's Lady Aggies have sent a message to Danville Coach Paul Wilson; they love coming to Wayne Bowling Gym around Thanksgiving.

In the last two years, Fairview has compiled six wins in eight tries. The Lady Aggies prevailed over Decatur, West Morgan and Danville before facing Athens for the grand prize in the ninth championship of this holiday festivity.

Of the teams with a new coach in the area, the Good Hope Raiders have so far enjoyed first-year mentor Drew Adams.

Good Hope closed out the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament with a fifth-place finish, downing Locust Fork 72-62 Friday evening. The Raiders have produced seven wins in eight games, with the only loss coming to Curry in the opening round of Hanceville's tournament, a game that was decided in overtime.

In looking ahead to the upcoming week that goes from the end of November to the beginning of December, a majority of the teams will encounter area play for the first time.

That will set the tone for how they will be seeded for area tournaments when the contests roll around in early February.

Here is a look at this week's area basketball schedule:

MONDAY: West Point at Walker, Hartselle at Cullman

TUESDAY: West Point at Good Hope, Holly Pond at Hanceville, Vinemont at Fairview, Curry at Cold Springs, St. Bernard at Falkville

THURSDAY: Falkville at Vinemont
