CULLMAN – The Cullman County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is hosting a free Citizens' Firearms Safety Class on Tuesday, Nov.15 at 6 p.m. at Cullman City Hall.

The class will focus on safely handling your weapon, proper technique for shooting your weapon, cleaning your weapon, getting familiar with your weapon. A PowerPoint presentation will also be shown.

"We held a firearms safety class for citizens earlier this year and were overwhelmed at the response. We expect a big crowd again.  We at the Cullman County Sheriff's Office are advocates of our citizens having the knowledge and training they need to protect themselves," said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry. "I would add that we want them to also know how to handle the weapon safely and with this free training they are able to gain valuable knowledge in both these areas."

To register, email Cpt. Mark Persall at mpersall@cullmansheriff.org or call  256-734-0342. Citizens do not have to register, but it is encouraged as it gives CCSO deputies a good idea of the number of participants attending.

Participants do not have to bring a weapon to the class. Citizens can sign up at the meeting to go to the shooting range if they wish to attend a day at the range.
