Wallace State Nursing students posted high pass rates for their NCLEX exams, with 100 percent for Practical Nursing candidates and 91.9 percent for Registered Nursing candidates.

HANCEVILLE – The most recent graduates of the Wallace State Community College Department of Nursing Education have once again posted high numbers in the percentage of students who passed their National Council Licensure Exam, or NCLEX.

Wallace State’s most recent graduates earned a perfect 100 percent for those taking the NCLEX-PN exam for practical nurses and 91.9 percent passed the NCLEX-RN for registered nurses. Both rates are higher than the national average for 2016, with only 82.7 percent of community college graduates passing the RN exam and 84.59 for the practical nursing exam, according to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

“We are very pleased with these most recent results from our graduates,” said Deborah “Pepper” Hoover, director of Wallace State’s Department of Nursing Education. “Of course, we would love to have the RN number rise to 100 percent, as well. We’ll study these results and see in what ways we can help our students to improve their success rate. Either way, though, we are extremely proud of our students.”

Wallace State Nursing graduates, who can complete their Associate Degree and sit for the RN exam in two years, sit for the very same exam that students in four-year programs do. Wallace State graduates have consistently set higher pass rates on the NCLEX than the majority of the state’s four-year institutions.

Wallace State Nursing students can take the NCLEX-PN after successfully completing the first three semester of the nursing curriculum, allowing them the choice of entering the workforce and/or completing their courses to take the RN exam after two more semesters.

Students interested in applying for the Wallace State Nursing program can begin turning in their applications as of March 15, 2017, for entry in fall 2017. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2017.

The Wallace State Department of Nursing Education recently earned the designation as a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing, one of only 15 in the nation chosen this year. Wallace State is the only community college in the state of Alabama to have ever received the distinction and one of only two institutions of higher education in the state to earn the honor.
