CULLMAN – Church at the Well hosted its first Halloween Light the Night at the Link of Cullman County on Monday night. Over the course of the evening, more than 400 trick or treaters and others stopped in for free food, drinks and entertainment, while door prizes and a costume contest completed the evening.
Mike Rester, head pastor of the Church at the Well, partnered with the Link of Cullman County and rented the location on Ninth Street Southeast. The church is new to Cullman, opening its doors on June 12 of this year at the Civic Center and later moving to the Ninth Street location.
“This was our first outreach event in the community,” said Rester, who says planning for Light the Night took several months and that funds were collected from church members.
Syvella Johnson of Cullman was out trick or treating with her daughters Morgan and Chloe and happened upon the festivities.
“I was driving around and my kids saw the inflatables so we had to stop,” joked Johnson. Not only was it a way for her kids to burn off that extra Halloween sugar, but Johnson said, “It is good way to meet new people and a way to connect with old acquaintances.”
Both of her daughters were dressed in full Halloween spirit; Morgan, age 14, was Little Red Riding Hood and Chloe, age 9, was the one and only Punk Rock Which of Monster High.
