"Ghost City," set up by Charlene Dix and the First Baptist Preschool
CULLMAN – Cullman First Baptist Church (FBC) held its third annual First Fest on Wednesday evening, kicking off days of trunk-or-treat events being held by different organizations over the next few days in Cullman County.
FBC’s Director of Children’s Ministries, Rebekah Mickle, said that with First Fest, FBC hoped to “welcome everybody in the community… and to minister to any unchurched family.” The festival was expected to draw approximately 2,500 people throughout the evening. FBC’s Praise Team ministry provided live entertainment, as did the band, Round 2.
Mickle was in charge of First Fest Wednesday evening.
“The festival is held on the Wednesday before Halloween and is growing every year,” she said. All of the rides were sponsored by the church and were provided for through church members’ donations.
Said Mickle, “We are thrilled to serve the community in this way, and any way that we can minister we are always proud to do; our doors are always open.”
FBC member Melinda James says she felt First Fest was a success. “We have a great turnout and people are lined up the street.” She also noted that if attendees wanted more information about FBC, they were able to sign up with various volunteers at tables at opposite ends of the festival.
Dawn Chambers, of Cullman, took advantage of the trunk-or-treat available at the festival with her two children Wednesday evening and was impressed with the size of the crowd. She says that the event was beyond her expectations. Her children, ages 7 and 10, were dressed as a Red Ninja and the Corpse’s Bride.
