CULLMAN – It was a great first quarter of football, with both teams making decent offensive plays and several strong defensive stands, but that’s the closest the game was, as the Bearcats turned it on, beating down the Panthers 56-35 and claiming another valuable region victory.
Both teams had near even marks on time of possession. Cullman finished with a total offensive performance of 508 yards to the Panthers’ 380. Cullman racked up 61 total plays and possessed the ball for roughly five minutes longer.
Between the play of Owen Lovell on defense and the running game of Ezra Burks, to the constant aerial assaults between Fletcher Jennings, Carson Freeman and Caden Winn, the Bearcats put the pressure on the Panthers, driving them into the ground before the half.
Jennings finished the game 10 of 17 passing for 232 yards, four TDs and one interception. Burks carried the ball 21 times for 148 yards and three TDs. Winn got into the aerial attack with four catches for 120 yards and two TDs. Carson Freeman finished with five receptions for 82 yards for two TDs.
Complete dominance on special teams, offense and defense was the trend for Cullman throughout the game. The Bearcats appeared to be working better as a defensive unit, shutting down nearly every attempt Southside-Gadsden made at running the ball. Cullman’s secondary would not tolerate a loss tonight, as they continued to knock down deep passes, only allowing short gains.
Southside-Gadsden made an attempt late in third quarter; however, the Bearcats answered touchdown for touchdown, finally ending the game 56-35.
Cullman is still playing for their spot in the playoffs with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.
