JOPPA – A house fire today in the community of Joppa resulted in the total loss of the residence, but thankfully no one was injured.
Multiple volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze on Alabama Highway 69 in front of New Jerusalem Church, which is located at 16818 Alabama Highway 69 N in Joppa.
"It started sometime around lunchtime," said Joppa Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Max Miller. "It is out now. We were there about seven hours."
Miller says one person lived in the home, but the resident was not home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters from Baileyton, Fairview and Joppa were on the scene, along with members of the Arab Fire Department and co-op.
As far as what caused the blaze, Miller said, "I'm suspecting it to be electrical."
