HANCEVILLE – Best-selling author Garth Stein (www.garthstein.com) will visit the Wallace State Community College campus on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 9:30 a.m., in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre, located in the Student Center.
Stein is the author of “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” which is the book chosen for the 2016-2017 Common Read at Wallace State. Common Read is a program aimed at bringing together students, faculty and staff in discussions and activities centered around the selected book.
A work of fiction, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” shares the story of racecar driver Denny Swift from the perspective of his dog, Enzo. During their time together, Enzo has gained tremendous insights into the human condition and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques need on the racetrack, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals.
“The Art of Racing in the Rain” has sold more than 4 million copies in 35 languages, and spent more than three years on the New York Times bestseller list. Other novels by Stein include “Raven Stole the Moon,” “How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets,” and most recently, “A Sudden Light.” He also wrote the plays “Brother Jones,” and “No One Calls me Mutt Anymore,” and was a documentary filmmaker before he began writing full-time.
Stein is the co-founder of Seattle7Wrtiers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to energizing readers and writers and their communities by providing funding, programming, donations of free books to those in need and generally inspiring enthusiasm for reading.
Wednesday’s event is free and open to the public.
