GOOD HOPE – The long-awaited replacement of the century-old Bavar Creek Bridge in Good Hope will begin on Thursday, Oct. 20.
According to the City of Good Hope, a portion of Beech Grove Road (County Road 216) will close beginning on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. and could be closed for as long as 120 working days, while the old bridge is replaced by crews from Carcel & G Construction.
The original date for the closure was Oct. 25, but utility re-locations took less time than expected, said a notification from Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett.
The closure will affect traffic from Dodge City to Good Hope.
The City of Good Hope is funding the project through a grant received three years ago from the Alabama Department of Transportation's (ALDOT) Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, or ATRIP.
According to ALDOT, the total cost of the project is approximately $921,000.
