CULLMAN – It was tough sledding for the St. Bernard Lady Saints Tuesday night as the Shoals Christian Lady Flame took the Region 2, Area 13 match three sets to none.
After taking the first set by a score of 25-9, the Lady Flame went right back to work in set number two. After Anna Myers got the Lady Saints on the board with a set opening kill, the Lady Flame, led by Karleigh Cross and Breanna Martin, went on an 8-3 run to establish a comfortable lead and never looked back. The Lady Flame scored the last eight points of the set to win by a score of 25-12.
Down but not out, the Lady Saints played their hearts out in the third set. Both squads traded points for the first part of the set with neither team being able to gain much of an advantage. Emma Tafazoli led the Lady Saints with a kill and a block while Ashley Duke added a kill to keep pace with Shoals Christian.
However, it was the strong play of middle hitter Lee-Taylor Bishop of Shoals Christian that helped the Lady Flame pull away. She had five big kills in the set and recorded the final point of the match with an ace. Shoals Christian took the third set by a final score of 25-16 and the match three sets to none.
The Lady Saints will play their final regular season match next Monday as the travel to Falkville to take on the Lady Blue Devils. Shoals Christian will be in action Thursday at Mars Hill.
